Ingrown hairs occur when hair grows back into the skin, instead of out through the skins surface, when hair is shaved, plucked or waxed.
Ingrown hair develops into small bumps, and the skin around the ingrown hair may be painful and itchy.
Anyone who removes hair by shaving, plucking or waxing is at risk. Some people are at a higher risk for ingrown hairs than others. For example, people with coarse or curly hair texture, especially around the pubic region, as this hair is generally coarser.
Here are Some Tips to Reduce Your Chances of Getting Ingrown Hair
1. Prepare the area(s) to be shaved with a hotel towel, or by showering in warm to hot water.
This softens the hair, making it easier to cut or wax.
2. Always shave with the grain of your hair growth, never against it. This leads to irritation and increases likelihood of ingrown hair.
3. Use a sharp razor, and limit the number of blades to 3 or less.

4. Treat the area(s) with witch hazel, a soothing aftershave, or balm.
5. Use a device like BumpBan that works to correct ingrown hair after you shave, if you don't have ingrown hair to begin with you won't deal with the bumps and irritation they cause.
