You've been cooped up inside all winter, and as the winter ice and wicked weather subside you anxiously await summers arrival. You’ve been hitting the gym and are ready for tank tops and flip flops. However, summer comes along with its own set of sticky issues. As the earth continues to become warmer and the sun more intense your skin, needs to be protected more than ever before.

Not to worry here’s a quick guide to keep you on top of your game.

I grew up believing as an African American male that sunscreen wasn’t necessary, but after research I found that to be FALSE. Absorbing too many UV rays isn’t good for anyone, be sure to choose a quality sunscreen.

Always check the ingredients listed on the bottle (stay away from retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A) Oxybenzone is known to disrupt hormones, and is a known allergenic).

A good sunscreen should include: zinc, titanium dioxide, avobenzone, or Mexoryl S.

The higher the value SPF on the sun block the better the protection right? True, but even values of SPF 50 can only protect you but so much. Limit direct sun exposure for long periods as much as possible, it’s the only 100% guaranteed protection method.

Avoid using the same sun screen on your body and face, preferably an oil free sun screen designed specifically for your face, opt for a water base instead of oil based sun screen.

*Use a product like BumpBan to exfoliate your skin and keep ingrown hair and razor bumps at bay.
